Butterhead lettuce "Humil" - Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata.
Very early and cold-resistant!
An unusual variety, especially suitable for autumn sowing (winter sowing) in order to obtain a very early spring harvest. The head is firm and closed, the leaves are smooth and tasty.
Medium-sized head (approx. 380 g).
Can be grown year-round in open ground, under cover, and in greenhouses. Closed-type head with light green, smooth, shiny leaves boasting excellent taste and texture.
Grows best on sandy-loamy or light loamy, well-prepared soil free of weeds.
The seeds of this lettuce overwinter perfectly in the open ground, allowing you to get the earliest fresh greens.
Agrotechnics.
Best predecessors for lettuce: cabbage, potatoes (crops that were fertilized with organics).
In autumn, ploughing or digging is carried out with the application of humus. Acidic soils require liming. Mineral fertilizers are applied in spring.
Seeds are sown in open ground in early April, in wide rows with a spacing of 60-70 cm. Sowing depth 1.5-2 cm.
Soil rolling is carried out before and after sowing. When dense seedlings appear, thinning is performed twice: at the phase of one true leaf to a distance of 5-7 cm, and 1.5 months after sowing, leaving a distance of 15-20 cm between plants. After thinning, fertilizing with a special complex fertilizer solution is recommended.
Care consists of loosening row spacing and watering. Watering is carried out along the furrows, avoiding water contact with the plant leaves.
Harvesting is done by cutting the rosette of leaves at the very surface of the soil.
